Danny Warbutton was a four-time Georgia state champion, four-time Southern Intercollegiate Gymnastics champion and a three-time All-American while competing in gymnastics for Georgia Southern.
Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein said he was saddened to hear of Warbutton's death but "was glad (Danny) was able to know of his induction into the Hall of Fame before he died."
Warbutton was a 10th place all-around finisher at the 1972 Olympic Trials and was selected to the United States team in 1977.
Warbutton was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, served as chairman of the Pennsylvania Age Group and chairman of Regional Elite Coach of Coaches, Foreign Relations Committee, International and Olympic Team Selection and the National Coaching Staff and was the first recipient of the Pennsylvania Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988.
Warbutton passed away on August 4, 2014 after battling bladder cancer. He will be represented at the Hall of Fame ceremony by his wife Sue, sons Robert and Steven, close friend Bubba Kenfrow and members of his family.
There are two planned memorial services. The first is in Myrtle Beach, S.C. August 16 and the second is in Washington, Pa. August 23.
