Arrest solves multiple crimes in the county

A Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department said over the past month, local builders and mobile home dealerships reported multiple burglaries in which furniture and appliances were stolen.  These burglaries occurred in Bridgewater Subdivision and construction projects on Josh Deal Rd, Langley Pond, on Burkhalter Rd, and Jesup Homes, on US 301 South.  Other commercial burglaries of a more conventional nature were reported on the US 301 S corridor.

Patrol deputies working with Investigators and members of the Statesboro-Bulloch Cime Suppression Team, saturated these areas and used other investigative methods to prevent further thefts and to locate those responsible for earlier ones.  Their efforts paid off when investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 7,000 block of Sinkhole Rd, Statesboro, where numerous items of stolen property were located.  Jamie Lamont Smith, 40, was arrested and transported to the Bulloch County Jail.

Investigators also searched residences in Cedarwood Acres MHP and on Old Stagecoach Road where they recovered an estimated $14,240 worth of stolen property.

Smith was also identified as one of two subjects caught on security video at Deloach’s Diesel on US 301 South stealing metal in May.  All together, 17 separate burglaries and/or thefts have been cleared by the arrest of Smith.  The Sheriff's report said Smith is also a registered sex offender, having been convicted in Statutory Rape in 1997.
