Red Cross blood drives

Written by  Thursday, 24 July 2014 09:18

East Georgia Regional Medical Center will host a drive today from 12:30 till 5:30 p.m. in the Mims Monroe Blood Services Center, Suite 307, on the third floor of the Doctors’ Office Building adjacent to the hospital.

Eastern Heights Baptist Church will be the location for this week’s second blood drive Friday in the church’s Family Life Center from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m.

July’s blood collection efforts will wrap up Thursday, July 31 in the Bulloch County Park and Recreation Civic Room at the Honey Bowen Building at 1 Max Lockwood drive off Fair Road.  Sponsored by the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners, that drive will be from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m.

The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood and platelet donors of all types to help prevent a blood shortage. Every day the Red Cross must collect 15,000 donations to meet the needs of patients.  Over the past 11 weeks, donations were down about 8 percent, about 80,000 fewer donations than expected.  The shortfall is significant enough that the Red Cross could see an emergency situation in the coming week.

All types of blood are needed but there is a special need for O-Negative, O-Positive, A- Negative and B-Negative
