The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood and platelet donors of all types to help prevent a blood shortage. Every day the Red Cross must collect 15,000 donations to meet the needs of patients. Over the past 11 weeks, donations were down about 8 percent, about 80,000 fewer donations than expected. The shortfall is significant enough that the Red Cross could see an emergency situation in the coming week.
All types of blood are needed but there is a special need for O-Negative, O-Positive, A- Negative and B-Negative
