David PerdueDavid Perdue The candidates for the November General elections have been determined.  For the U.S. Senate race to replace retiring Saxby Chambliss it will be David Perdue and Michelle Nunn.

David Perdue, a businessman from Glynn County defeated Representative Jack Kingston in Tuesday’s runoff.  Perdue is the former CEO of Reeebok, Dollar General and Pillowtex.

It was a slim margin for Perdue…only by about 8,000 votes.  With 99 percent of the ballots counted at last report that translated into a 50.9 percent margin.

As expected Kingston did well in southeast Georgia.  He got 86 percent of the vote in Chatham County.   Perdue, however, won the favor of Atlanta area voters taking Fulton and the other metropolitan area.  With the exception of southeast Georgia Perdue did well across the rest of the state.

As the Republican candidate, Perdue, a cousin of former governor Sonny Perdue, will take on Democratic nominee Michelle Nunn.  An Atlanta non-profit executive, is the daughter of former Senator Sam Nunn and is considered to be the Democrats’ best candidate to take the GOP held seat.
