Inmate found dead in his cell

Written by  Tuesday, 15 July 2014 09:37

According to a report from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office about 5:30 a.m. deputies found 50 year old Edelmiro Vasquez not breathing in one of the cells.  He was last seen alive about 2:30 that morning when deputies conducted a routine head count.  Supervising Jail Division Sergeant notified Bulloch EMS as well as the Jail Captain, Chief Deputy, and Sheriff.  Upon the arrival of EMS it was determined that the inmate was deceased.

Following Jail protocol the entire cellblock was locked down and the scene secured for processing.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigations was contacted and requested to  conduct an investigation, also according to BCSO policy.

Vasquez’s body was turned over to the Coroner for transport to the GBI’s Coastal Regional Crime Lab for autopsy.  Sheriff Lynn Anderson said at this point no foul play is suspected, but a final determination will not be reached until the autopsy is conducted and the GBI releases its report.
