According to the Sheriff’s Department report, deputies went to a residence in the 7,500 block of Stilson-Leefield Road in the Leefield Community July 11 for a reported home invasion.  Shannon Paul Mincey, 32, Clyo-Kildare Road, was arrested.  Mincey apparently had broken into the home to locate is estranged wife and children who had moved from Screven County into the residence because of domestic violence in the home.  The report said he had knocked out a window air conditioner to get inside.  He had a knife with him when arrested.  Earlier last week he had been released from the Effingham County Jail.  A firearm was inside his vehicle which was found a short distance away.

Mincey is the first person to be charged under a new Home Invasion statute which took effect July 1.  The statute makes it a felony to enter an occupied dwelling while armed for the purposes of committing a crime.

Mincey was transported to the Bulloch County Jail where he remains without bond charged with one count each of Home Invasion-2nd degree, Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Crime, Reckless Conduct, Simple Battery, Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication, Criminal Trespass and six counts of Cruelty to Children 3rd degree.
