Fire at Great Dane plant

Written by  Friday, 04 July 2014 09:26

Four fire fighters suffered minor heat exhaustion while fighting a fire at the Statesboro Great Dane plant on A. J. Riggs Road Thursday.

About 2 p.m. an employee reported smoldering equipment behind a building.  When Statesboro and Bulloch County fire fighters arrived they found about a  hundred cooling units waiting to be installed burning producing a lot of black smoke.  The flames were spread by winds to other cooling units and to the outer walls of a warehouse.  The sprinkler system limited the damage to the inside of the building.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined and no employees were injured.

The blaze was out around 4 p.m.
