A robbery attempt Sunday sent a man to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The robbery happened shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lodge Apartments.  Statesboro Police say officers responded to the apartment complex on Institute Street where they found 38 year old Nicky Latrell Young with a wound to the leg.  He said a man approached him brandishing a gun to rob him.  Officer Amanda Lane said the robber fired the gun during the robbery striking Young.  He was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro where he is said to be in stable but serious condition.

Police say they will have to wait until effects of the medication wears off before they can talk to him.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Statesboro Police Department at 912-764-9911.  You may also submit anonymous information online at or text a tip to TIPSSPD with your message to 274637 (CRIMES).  All information will be kept strictly confidential.
