Burglars caught red-handed

Written by  Thursday, 19 June 2014 09:27

Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson said in a statement released Wednesday officers responded to a burglary alarm at the JP Mart on Cedar Street about 11:30 Tuesday night.  He said Officer David Gonzalez entered through an open door and found an individual hiding inside.  A perimeter was set up around the store to prevent the suspect from escaping.

The burglar attempted to escape by using an inside access point to get on the roof where two other suspects were hiding.  Police took the three, two juveniles and an adult male identified as Kelvin Wright, into custody without incident.  All three were charged with second degree burglary and place in detention.

Nelson thanked the Candler County Sheriff’s Department and the Metter Fire Department for their help.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to call Investigator Justin Wells at 912-685-2190 or send email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
