The first of several blood drives over the next few weeks is set for today. All the drives will be at the Mims Monroe Blood Services Center, Suite 307, on the third floor of the East Georgia Regional Medical Center’s Doctor’s Office building adjacent to the hospital on Fair Road. Each of those drives will be between 12:30 and 5:30 p.m.
Potential donors are asked to make a special effort to attend today’s drive or any future blood drive. Vacation season is here and that brings more travel which, unfortunately, results in more traffic crashes and that requires more blood needed for those injured. With so man people traveling away from home during the vacation season, that usually means a drop in blood donations.
Bulloch County Red Cross officials say there is a chronic shortage of blood. All types are needed, particularly O-Negative, O-Positive, A-Negative and B-Negative. Since time can be a factor for many people, you can set up a specific time by making an appointment prior to each blood drive.
To make an appointment by phone, call: 1-800-733-2767 (1-800-Red Cross). To make an appointment online, go to www.redcrossblood.org / Click on Make a Blood Donation Appointment. If, after making an appointment you find a conflict will prevent you attending, call the Red Cross to cancel so someone else can take that time period.
