The Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security have introduced a new phone app that is expected to keep Georgians in the know on potential emergency situations. The upgraded version of the state’s emergency mobile app, Ready Georgia, can now be downloaded from the website ready.ga.gov/mobileapp
According to Governor Nathan Deal, the app will now include shelter information, alternative transportation routes and other emergency-related information.
Now you can stay updated with information just in time for hurricane season to pick up. The app also includes severe weather alerts, a live traffic map, and incident reports straight from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The map also displays the location of open Red Cross shelters and approved “good Samaritan” shelters, and provides directions from the users’ current location.
The app’s development was a result of collaboration between the GEMA, the National Weather Service, GDOT, Georgia Tech and The Weather Channel. The app can be downloaded now at www.ready.ga.gov/mobileapp.
