About 11 p.m. Saturday Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop a Chevrolet Cruze on State Route 67 but it fled westbound on Interstate 16. An attempt by a Georgia State Patrol trooper to stop the speeding car also failed.
When the car turned onto Statesboro Route 67 headed toward Statesboro, deputies deployed spike strips near the Kiwanis Fairgrounds. The driver avoided the spikes and backed into Sheriff’s patrol car then turned into the Hammocks Subdivision. Officers struck the car and pushed it into a ditch. The driver, identified as 33 year old Ernest Graham of Savannah, fled on foot. When confronted by officers he fought them until a Taser was used to subdue him.
A passenger in the car, 31 year old Shavika Williams, also of Savannah, was also arrested. A search of the car found a quantity of cocaine and marijuana.
Multiple charges against Graham include Possession of Cocaine and Marijuana, Felony Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Speeding (124 in a 55) and DUI. Williams was charged with Possession of Cocaine and misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
