A near capacity crowd was on hand at the Bulloch County Courthouse Monday to see Heather Banks McNeal officially become the new Bulloch County Clerk of Court.
Probate Judge Lee DeLoach administered two oaths of office...one to faithfully fulfill her duties as clerk and the other to support the Constitutions of the United States and the state of Georgia.
McNeal promised to take the oath very seriously and not to let down the people of Bulloch County.
She replaces Charles Sikes, who served as interim clerk following the resignation of Teresa Tucker who pleaded guilty to violation of oath of office and mishandling funds last year. McNeal thanked the retired Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agent in charge of the Statesboro office and called to a round of applause.
McNeal won the office by defeating Alvie Coes III in a special election held in conjunction to the May primary.
She has served various positions in Bulloch County over the past 16 years, including deputy clerk of the Superior and Bulloch County State courts, assistant to the State Court solicitor general, State Court Administrator, human resources manager for the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners and Bulloch County DUI Court administrator.
