Second Metter High teacher arrested

Written by  Wednesday, 28 May 2014 09:36

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has announced the arrest of a second teacher at Metter High School on charges of inappropriate sexual conduct with  student.

According to Special Agent in Charge of the Statesboro GBI office, about 4 p.m. Tuesday Regan Smith, a media specialist, turned herself in at the Candler County Jail.

Last week Brianna Streetmon, a paraprofessional at Metter High was charged with inappropriate conduct with an 18 year male student at the school.  The two cases are separate and are not related Sapp said.

Even though the student in Streetmon’s case is legally an adult, in Georgia it is illegal for a teacher to have inappropriate contact with any student.  She is currently on paid administrative leave from the Candler County school system.

Smith’s age or address were not immediately available.

Since both of the cases involve members of the school faculty and students, the cases have been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation

Neither the GBI or the Candler County Sheriff’s Department has released photos of either teacher and will not release any further information pending the investigations.
