Primary voting today

  There are more than 32,000 registered voters in Bulloch County who will be able to go their regular precincts between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. today in the Primary elections.


  Bulloch County voters will chose a successor to Teresa Tucker, who resigned as Clerk of Court last year after pleading guilty to violation of oath and public office.  The non-partisan ballot lists Alvie Coles III and Heather Banks McNeal.


  Democrats Jacquavius "Jac" Roberson is running against incumbent Anthony Simmons for County Commission Seat 1-B; Republicans incumbent Robert Rushing is being challenged by Jim Anderson for County Commission Seat 2-D;Board of Education District 5 incumbent Vernon Littles faces Glennera Martin; and, Jimmy T. "Jay" Cooke, Jr., is running against incumbent Anshul Jain for BOE District 6.  Both BOE races are non-partisan.


  Republican Governor Nathan Deal has opposition within his own party from State School Superintendent John D. Barge and David Pennington, former Dalton mayor.  The winner will face Democrat State Senator Jason Carter of Decatur. 


  Seven Republicans and four Democrats are running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Saxby Chambliss who is not running for re-election.


  Democrat Elizabeth N. "Liz" Johnson of Statesboro is running against incumbent state insurance commissioner Keith G. Heard of Fayetteville.   The winner will take on Republican Ralph T. Hudgens in the November general election.


     Voters are reminded they must provide a valid photo ID to cast ballots today.
