Viracon expanding

Written by  Office of the Governor Tuesday, 13 May 2014 11:22

Governor Nathan Deal announced today that Viracon, one of North America’s largest architectural glass fabricators, will expand its existing operations in Statesboro, creating 125 jobs and investing $2 million in its Statesboro facility.

Deal said “Georgia’s booming manufacturing sector makes it easy for leading global companies such as Viracon to remain competitive in Georgia.  Having the tools to help existing business create high-quality jobs is important to keeping our state a leader in the international marketplace.”

The existing 330,000-square-foot facility in Statesboro produces and fabricates architectural glass for major construction projects across the United States. This newest expansion will help the company meet the expected growth in product demand, particularly growth in commercial construction activity along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

Bill Wright, Viracon’s vice president of US Operations, said “We have a great team in Georgia.  On behalf of our employees, I would like to thank the city of Statesboro, Bulloch County and the state of Georgia for helping us grow our business in our Southeast plant.”

Bulloch County Commission chairman Garrett Nevil said “We are proud to be the home of Viracon in Georgia and are very pleased with the decision to create additional jobs here.  We believe that Viracon will continue to be a great success story for our community.”

Annie Baxter, director of the logistics, energy, agribusiness and food (LEAF) team at the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), worked closely with the Development Authority of Bulloch County and the Statesboro Bulloch Chamber of Commerce in assisting the company.

“The new jobs and additional investment from Viracon are a welcome addition to our progressive and business friendly community,” said Statesboro Mayor Jan Moore.

“We were able to secure this expansion for both Statesboro and Bulloch County thanks to the creativity and hard work of our state partners and local leadership,” said Bruce Yawn, chair of the Development Authority of Bulloch County.

“A solid workforce is vital to state-of-the-art companies such as Viracon,” said GDEcD Commissioner Chris Carr. “Georgia’s pro-business climate, which includes a diverse talent pool and a solid logistics infrastructure, not only helps companies keep up with industry demands, but enables companies to successfully expand here.”
