Paulson Stadium overflowed for graduation

Written by  Monday, 12 May 2014 09:31

Former President Jimmy Carter was among those who attended graduation ceremonies at Georgia Southern University Saturday.   He and his wife were there for the graduation of their grandson James Carlton “Jamie” Carter who received a BBA in logistics.  They were among about 25,000 guests to gather at the newly expanded Paulson  Stadium.  Their attendance was not announced prior to graduation but Georgia Southern President Brooks Keel acknowledged their presence to the guests during the graduation ceremony.

Governor Nathan Deal, currently running for re-election, told the graduates to step out of their comfort zone.  He warned a comfort zone doesn’t last long and can easily be burst by external forces over which they have no control.  He advised them not let developing a comfort zone to become their goal in life.

Deal will make another visit to Statesboro Tuesday to attend a meeting of his High Demand Career Initiative.  Deal said Georgia Southern University has seen rapid growth and continue growth is expected.  He said Georgia Southern is an important part of the university system of Georgia.
