National Day of Prayer Thursday

Written by  Tuesday, 29 April 2014 12:37

The 63rd annual observance of the National Day of Prayer will be hosted in downtown Statesboro on Thursday, May 1st at 12 noon. A group will gather to join hands and share prayers during lunch time as a part of a National event that takes place across the nation. This year’s theme for National Day of Prayer is One Voice, United in Prayer. The event has been in effect since 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation. The holiday was officially established in 1952 when President Truman signed a declaration making the national day of prayer an annual event. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May.
