County Manager Tom Couch told the commissioners there are more than 60 roads that need to be paved or repaired. The problem with doing the work is with securing rights-of-way along those roads. He said it may be necessary for the commissioners to invoke “eminent domain” to get the work done. Couch said there are more road in the county that need improvement than there is money.
A grand opening is scheduled following Tuesday’s regular County Commission meeting for a new EMS/fire substation. The commissioners will meet Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the Brooklet City Hall. At the conclusion of the meeting they will attend an open house for the new EMS/substation in Brooklet. EMS and fire personnel have already begun using the facility. Currently there are only tow EMS locations…one on Statesboro and the Brooklet location. Officials plan more such substations with Portal being the most likely location for another in the future.
Plans are underway to construct a new county annex next to the current building on North Main Street. The new facility will be constructed by Lavender & Associates for a little less than $2½ million.
