The annual Statesboro Kiwanis Rodeo will be in town for two performances this weekend…Friday and Saturday. There are still several days before the cowboys will show off their skills at the Kiwanis-Ogeechee Fairgrounds. They will be preceded by Miss Rodeo USA, Elisa Swenson.
While the 26 year old from Lakeside, California is in town this week leading up to the rodeo, she will visit fair sponsors Anderson’s General Store and Franklin Chevrolet as well as other businesses and schools in the area.
Her mother died when she was 10 years old. Years later while she and her father was visiting an uncle in Montana she went to a rodeo. That re-ignited her interest so her father sent her to a horse camp. She entered a local rodeo pageant which resulted in her eventually being crowned Miss Rodeo USA.
Swenson plans to pursue a career in nursing.
The Hedrick Rodeo Company will be in Statesboro this Friday and Saturday at the fairgrounds on Georgia Highway 67. Admission at the gate will be $15 for adults and $10 for youth. Advance tickets are available at Anderson’s General Store for $13 for adults and $8 for youth
