Service to Mankind Awards Honor Locals

The Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Awards banquet was held last night and five local citizens received special honor for their commitment to serving others. The banquet, held at Georgia Southern University's Nessmith-Lane Conference Center honored a couple dozens of humanitarians for their hard work helping out those in need. Nan Rushing, Charles Sikes, Nancy Stubbs Waters, Lannie Denmark Lee and Edith Hutchison won lifetime achievement awareds for their sustained public service. Edith Hutchison was honored for her work teaching in community churches, Nan Rushing assisted students in college preparation as a teacher of 37 years, Nancy Stubbs Waters devoted her work for those suffering with alcoholism and addiction.

Charles Sikes served over two and a half decades in the army before making his impact in the community. Finally, Lannie Denmark Lee Sr. spent time educating future farmers and the public on crop growth and agriculture.
