The Bulloch County Board of Health and the Hearts & Hands Clinic have been awarded grants totaling more than $87,000 from the Coastal Georgia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
Most of the money, $59,949, will go to the Health Department to establish "Bulloch's Breast Brigade" for women who are uninsured or under insured. The money will go for clinical breast exams, mammograms, referrals and diagnostic testing for women between 40 and 64 years of age whose screen showed an abnormal outcome.
This is the second straight year that the Heats & Hands Clinic will receive a grant. The non-profit clinic will receive $27,741, up from $24,921 from last year.
A total of $320,000 was awarded to six community programs in the coastal Georgia area.
Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long and McIntosh counties are served by Komen Coastal Georgia.
Most of the funding for the foundation is raised by the annual Savannah Race for the Cure, scheduled this year for April 12.
