Commissioners to sell old hospital property

Written by  Thursday, 06 March 2014 09:51

The three parcels are all that remains of the property where Bulloch Memorial Hospital was located for many decades.   There was talk of converting the building into county office space but that never developed.  The old hospital was eventually torn down after East Georgia Regional Medical Center was built on Fair Road.  The commissioners will receive sealed bids during the April 8 meeting.

A request by Marie Ashmore to close a portion of Dink Station Road off Kennedy Bridge Road in Register near Interstate 16 was denied.  Ashmore made the request so irrigation pivots could be installed to service her property on both sides of the road.

The commissioners heard from several people who live on Dink Station Road argued against the request saying it is the only safe route during wet weather.  The section was recenly improved and they argued closing the road would be a waste of the money spent on the improvements.  The commissioners voted 5 to 1 to deny Ashmore's request.  Commissioner Walter Gibson cast the lone dissenting vote.
