Statesboro City Council meets Tuesday

Statesboro City HallStatesboro City Hall  The first is a work session at 8:30 a.m. followed by a regular meeting half an hour later.


  The purpose of the work session is to discuss amending certain sections of the ordinance regarding the drive thus sale of alcoholic beverages.  The councilmen will also conduct a general discussion on emerging issues.  There will be no action taken at this session.


  At 9 a.m. the regular first of the month meeting will get underway.  Some of the items on the agenda include:


     A proposed resolution adopting a temporary six month moratorium on the acceptance, issuance, and processing of alcohol license applications for locations where a previously licensed premises was determined by a court to be a public nuisance;


     A motion to award a $442, 562 construction contract to BAK Builders. LLC, for phase II of the fire station project;


     Applications for alcohol licenses for Food World on Northside West and another on Fair Road for the retail sale of packaged beer and wine at a grocery store.  The locations were formerly known as Harvey's stores, and;


     A resolution authorizing the waiver of any payment in lieu of taxes (pilot) by the Statesboro Housing Authority to the City of Statesboro for the 2013 tax year.


  Other items are also on the agenda.  The meeting is open to the public.
