The old Shoney’s Restaurant will serve as the new location will be a sort of museum that puts on display the various locations, events, and historic moments in Statesboro’s history. The building will include exhibits from the Georgia Southern University Museum, Ogeechee Technical College and brochures from attractions such as Splash in the Boro and the Averitt Center for the Arts. The plan for the center is to create an area that encourages those who visit Statesboro to hang around a while with RV parking and relief stations, a small dog park, and a charging station for smart cars.
SCVB is building the facility with assistance from Heritage Bank of the South and Sea Island Bank and they plan to complete the entire project for a total investment of less than $500,000. They hope to have the center complete this Fall.
, the planned SCVB headquarters will include exhibits from the Georgia Southern University Museum and Ogeechee Technical College. These, and the usual supply of visitor center brochures on area attractions such as the GSU Raptor Center, Splash in the Boro and the Averitt Center for the Arts will suggest other destinations that could give visitors reasons to extend their stay.
