Luke Teague is a student in OTC’s Funeral Service Education Program and works as an apprentice at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors in Augusta. He will graduate from OTC in May. His plans are to manage a funeral home and possibly own one.
He wasn’t always in the funeral business. For four years he worked at radio stations in Athens and Atlanta and earned a journalism degree from the University of Georgia. He started working part-time at a funeral home then decided to make it his full-time career.
In accepting his award at Wednesday’s luncheon ceremony Teague said he is excited to represent Ogeechee Tech, to tell people about the school and advocate support for the Technical College System.
February 18 he will compete for the regional GOAL title in Macon then the state title later.
Teague was nominated for the title by Michele Rupar, OTC’s Funeral Service Program Director. He was among four finalists. The others were Lauren Hendry, diagnostic medical sonography, Sarah Mosley, health information technology and Tolethya “Kandi” Quillet, geographic information systems.
