This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia. Ted Wynn, Director of Bulloch County Safety/Emergency Management Agency said each day this week people in the county will have an opportunity to learn what to do if severe weather threatens.
Each day this week will focus on different aspects of being prepared in case of severe weather.
Today is designated as Thunderstorm Safety Day. Wynn said “The southeast is very vulnerable to tornados. We have the warm Gulf and Atlantic ocean influence mixed with cold fronts, and that makes the perfect mix for severe thunderstorms and sometimes tornados.”
The Statewide Tornado Drill will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday. All schools will be practicing and drilling their procedures for a tornado.
Thursday is Lightning Safety Day. The week’s activities will conclude Friday with Flood Safety Day.
The Bulloch EMA is posting information on their Facebook page centered around this week.
Wynn pointed to the severe winter weather last week in Georgia. He said “What happened in Atlanta is a prime example of how important it is to prepare for severe weather.”
