The American Red Cross blood drive scheduled for today in Statesboro has been cancelled, a victim of the winter storm that has plagued the state of Georgia for the past several days. That isn't the only one affected by the storm.
Kristen Stancil, American Red Cross Communications Program Manager for the Southern Blood Services Region, said the severe weather has forced the cancellation of all American Red Cross blood drives in the area today.
Since the beginning of January, winter weather has resulted in more than 500 Red Cross blood drive cancellations and nearly 16,000 uncollected blood and platelet donations. Overall, 26 states and Washington, D.C. have had blood drives canceled because of weather.
As conditions improve and it’s safe to travel, the Red Cross is urging donors to make an appointment to donate blood and replenish lifesaving blood supplies by calling 1-800- RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767 by going online to redcrossblood.org and click on Make A Blood Donation.
