Don’t drive in ice and snow

Written by  Tuesday, 28 January 2014 09:29

People in the south are not accustomed to driving in severe winter weather.   Therefore, authorities are advising that people do not drive tonight and Wednesday because of the expected snow and ice.   If you must drive, however, here are some tips to keep safe:

Drive slower than usual, especially at intersections, bridges and other hazardous areas.  In addition to slowing down allow at least three times more space between you and the car ahead.  To avoid skidding, break gently.

Clear windows, headlights and taillights from ice and snow before driving, use your low headlight beams, and be sure your windshield wipers are in good condition.   Be sure your vehicle’s fuel tank is full to keep the fuel from freezing.
