Jared Akins with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department said multiple charges were filed after the suspect attempted to flee from officers.
Shortly after 9 p.m. last Thursday, January 16, deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Targeted Enforcement Patrol, or S.T.E.P. unit, stopped a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina on North College Street in Statesboro for an equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 43 year old Ricky Joe Harden with a Lindsey Ct, Statesboro address, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. After a short foot chase, deputies arrested Harden. A search along Harden’s route of flight by Master Deputy Kirk McGlamery and his K-9 partner Max located a jacket dropped by Harden which contained cocaine.
Harden was booked into the Bulloch County Jail and charged with Driving while License Suspended, Obstruction, and Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute. At last report no bond had been set for Harden.
The Sheriff’s Targeted Enforcement Patrol was formed in May 2013 to target high crime areas and crime trends of concern. To date STEP deputies have arrested nearly 500 suspects on multiple charges.
