BOE meets tonight

Written by  Thursday, 09 January 2014 11:09

The meeting will get underway at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Office Boardroom at the William James Educational Complex on Williams.  Items on the agenda include the election of a chairman and vice chairman for 2014 and the school calendar for 2014-2015 and a policy change regarding emails.

The change is expected to declare the board’s email accounts are the property of the board and not personal accounts.  The new section will say that only an employee’s name, title, school, phone and fax numbers and mail and email address will be permitted in the signature block of emails.

The change follows the controversy from last year regarding the religious expressions by teachers and staff and would assure no particular viewpoint will be expressed.

The Thanksgiving holidays will be shortened from one week to just three days in the proposed 2014-2015 school calendar.  Another provision would extend the school year to May 29, past Memorial Day.
