Georgians can expect quite a few big changes with many laws in effect as of New Years Day. Here’s just a few that deserve your attention and most likely effect Statesboro families directly.

Act 32 of House Bill 254 changes the requirement of you commonly know day care center. The definition of the Day Care Center is changing in its governmental requirement and will now be more of a Child Care Learning Center. They must now provide liability insurance information to families of children in day care. Act 26 of HB 250 requires a background check of all day care employees.

Act 38 of HB 372 drops the GPA requirement for the HOPE grant at a Technical College or University from a 3.0 to a 2.0.

Act 206 of HB 156 puts parents on the hook for acts such a “sexting”, which is the unlawful distribution of pornography through any electronic device.

Another note: Georgia Powers’ $873 Million Georgia Power rate hike went into effect on the first. Customers will see their power bills increase by about $2.19 this year.
