Police investigate agg assault/armed robbery

  According to information from the Statesboro Police Department, about 2:30 Saturday morning officers responded to Willow Bend apartments after receiving a call about an altercation in which one person was stabbed and a firearm was possibly involved.  Before police arrived two suspects fled the scene in a silver vehicle.  Georgia Southern University Police were in the area and performed a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description.  Statesboro Police officers arrived as the traffic stop was in progress. 


  The two suspects, identified in the police report as 19 year old Joshua Slater of Swainsboro and Zachery Andrew Cryder of Twin City, were arrested and charged with multiple offenses.


  EMS personnel treated the two victims.  One had superficial injuries but the other was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro for lacerations on his head and abdomen.  He is in stable condition.


  Slater was charged with one count each of aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. Cryder was charged with one count each of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and felony Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance.

Man robbed at gunpoint


  Statesboro Police are looking for a man who robbed another at gunpoint last week.  The victim told police he was sitting in a friend’s vehicle about 8 p.m. last Tuesday when a man walked up to the car, stuck a gun in the back window and demanded money.  The victim told police after getting several items the assailant left the scene in a vehicle.  Police have no descriptions of the robber or the vehicle.  Investigation is continuing in the armed robbery.
