Brannen to be honored at public reception

 Joe BrannenJoe Brannen The 74 year old Brannen moved to Statesboro from Portal 47 years ago.  He began his political career in 1998.  Brannen served several terms on the City Council and was elected mayor 4years ago.  Mayor elect Jan Moore will take over the reigns of the city in January.


  Brannen expressed his pride in Statesboro and said he feels the city is in excellent condition and the elected officials are committed to the citizens.  He said Statesboro is a wonderful city.


  The Statesboro City Council meets just one time in December instead of twice as in the other 11 months in the year.  In order to allow Brannen a final assembly, a special meeting of the City Council has been called for Tuesday afternoon. That will be get underway at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor City Hall.  It will be open to the public.


  The meeting will be followed by the public reception scheduled from 5 till 7 p.m. at 40 East Grill, on East Main Street.
