Bank burglaries arrest

  Wendell Turner, Director of Public Safety, said Detective Ben Purvis and Detective Sergeant James Winskey, with the assistance of Sheriff Randall Tippins and the Evans County Sheriff’s Office, arrested 29 year old Darrell Demond Hunter last week in Claxton. 

 

  Hunter was charged with the May 27 smash and grab burglary of the Amaco Gas Station on North Main Street.  He was also charged with burglarizing in the 2nd degree Farmer’s and Merchants Bank on North Main Street July 27, Heritage Bank of the South on South Main Street October 15, and Sea Island Bank on South Main Street November 25.  

 

  Turner said on the day before Thanksgiving the Statesboro Police Department received forensic evidence from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab that connected Hunter to the Farmer’s and Merchants burglary.  He was located in Claxton and taken into custody.
