Maya Van WagenenMaya Van Wagenen  One of those authors will be 15 year old Maya Van Wagenen of Statesboro.  Penguin Publishing and Dreamworks Pictures recently signed the Statesboro High School Sophomore to a two-book and two-movie deals.  Her journals of how she navigated her early teen years in a new school in Texas, using Betty Cornell's 1950's self-help book Betty Cornell’s Glamour Guide for Teens will become her first published work, Popular:Vintage Wisdom for the Modern Geek.

Maya is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael S. Van Wagenen.  The family relocated to Bulloch County two years ago, when Dr. Van Wagenen accepted a position with Georgia Southern University's History Department.

Maya's book will be released this spring.

Georgia Southern alumnus Tony Arata, who has written many songs for some of Nashville's top country performers, will perform in a concert at Emma Kelly Theater Friday and will attend a Songwriting Workshop at the Statesboro Regional Library Saturday morning at 8:30.

Georgia Southern University, Statesboro Magazine, the Averitt Center for the Arts, Friends of the Statesboro Library, Ogeechee Technical College, and the Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau are hosting the festival.
