Prior to last night’s mayoral forum incumbent Phil Boyum and challenger Kelly Dabbs had a chance to express their thoughts on various issues facing the city. The two introduced themselves and answered questions presented to them.
Boyum cited his the experience he has gained since winning last year’s special election and his experience of reporting on the city as a journalist as one reason he should be re-elected.
Dabbs said he wants to change the negative perception many of the public have about the current city officials and his business experience as to why he would be the better councilman.
In response to questions presented to them both men supported the Water/Wastewater Department…Boyum citing recent improvements while Dabbs wants to entice large businesses to come to town by granting them a break on their water bills.
They were in agreement in their support for the Georgia Southern City Campus in downtown Statesboro and continued improved relations with the county government.
Neither supported the use Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax for the expansion of the downtown Mainstreet Farmers Market.
