Statesboro Public Safety Wendell Turner said about 10 p.m. last Friday police received a dispatch from Central 911 in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred at The Pointe at Southern on Statesboro Place Circle. The victim described the suspects as a black male and a black female and gave detailed clothing descriptions for each. She also described the vehicle the suspects were driving as a gray Chevy Impala.
While responding to the area, Statesboro Police were notified over the radio that Georgia Southern Police had a vehicle matching the description stopped on Mike-Ann Drive. Both occupants in the vehicle matched the description given by the victim. During the traffic stop the male suspect, identified as 28 year old Willie Jones of Wadley, fled on foot but was apprehended by Georgia Southern officers after a short foot-chase.
Statesboro Police arrived on Mike-Ann Drive and took the suspects into custody. Property linking the two suspects to the robbery was located in the vehicle and on the suspects. Jones as well as 21 year old Danequa Niquez Williams, also from Wadley, were charged with one count each of Armed Robbery and Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime.
Turner thanked Georgia Southern Police for their assistance. He said "This case is an excellent example of the continued partnership and cooperation between Statesboro Police Department and Georgia Southern University Police."
