The annual fair will begin its week long run at the fairgrounds on Georgia Highway 67 South beginning Monday, October 21 when the gates will open at 6 p.m. Prior to that, the annual parade will kick off at 5 p.m. that day featuring floats, marching bands, beauty queens, local dignitaries, classic cars and others.
Charles Sheets, Statesboro Kiwanis parade chairman, invites local groups as well as individuals to sign up. An estimated 130 units with 2,500 people will make the trek. There’s no cost to sign up. The theme this year is “Agriculture: The Essential Enterprise”. Cash prizes for floats will be awarded from first to fifth place. To enter, go to the parade website, www.kiwanisogeecheefair.org and apply. Click on the “parade” tab on the left, fill out the application and click submit. A reply will be sent within two days.
The parade will begin at the intersection of North Main and Olliff Streets and make its way down North and South Main streets and end at the intersection of Fair Road and Zetterower Avenue.
For more than 20 years Amusements of America has set up the midway. Local livestock show, agriculture exhibits, arts and crafts and plenty of live entertainment and food will add to the carnival atmosphere.
