Statesboro Director of Public Safety Wendell Turner said about 6 a.m. Friday the victim arrived at his home at 819 South Main Street and found an unknown man in the process of burglarizing his home. The victim told police the burglar pointed a handgun at him, forced him into the trunk of his own car then continue the burglary. The thief then drove the car to an ATM machine with the victim still inside the trunk. When he was unsuccessful in getting money from the ATM he drove back to the victim’s house, left him the trunk and fled.
Turner said the victim used the emergency trunk release to escape and, unsure if the burglar was still in his house, went to a nearby business to call police. He described the burglar as a black male, wearing blue jeans. Police searched the area but found no sign of the burglary. Back at the house it was determined that two televisions, a laptop computer, two handguns, a mobile phone, and other various items had been taken.
After further investigation police identified the burglar as 31 year old Damien Tremain Reese of Statesboro. He was arrested in Claxton Officer Travis Smallegan and Statesboro Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit at approximately 3:21p.m. Police found items linked to the incident and charged Burglary, Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Assault with more charges possible.
Turner said “I am very proud of the excellent police work done on this case by the Patrol Bureau and Investigative Bureau.”
