According to a Sheriff’s Department report, about 4:30 p.m. Deputy Mark Guarino and Sgt. Jason Kearney of the Sheriff’s Targeted Enforcement Patrol and members of the Bulloch County Drug Suppression team were on Mikell Street talking to people about drug activity in the area when they spotted 22 year old Michael A. Andrews of Peachtree Street acting suspiciously by walking through a yard, trying to shield himself with a bicycle and reaching into his waistband. When he was ordered to stop he fled pushing the bicycle. Guarino began pursuit during which he said he saw Andrews throw something in some bushes. When another deputy intercepted him, Andrew threw down his bicycle and ran. Guarino jumped on the bike and continued his pursuit.
Sgt. Kearney and Deputy Ross Norman pursued Andrews into a parking lot. Andrews Reportedly struggled with the officers and had to be subdued by a Taser.
In addition to simple battery and theft by taking warrant issued by the Statesboro Police Department he was charged with obstruction for fleeing from the deputies.
