According to the Bulloch County Sheriff’s office, staff members at the Bulloch County Correctional Institute received information that family members of an inmate would make an attempt to place contraband tobacco at a work site for that inmate to pick up while on a work detail.
The institute staff members contacted the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Team for assistance in investigating the incident and Suppression Team investigators identified Frederick Harris, 62, and Carolyn Harris, 65 of Albany, Georgia as the persons responsible for dropping off the contraband items.
The inmate, John Harris, 31, was charged after he recovered the contraband and attempted to bring it back inside the Correctional Institute. Frederick and Carolyn Harris were each charged with one count of Criminal Attempt to Cross Guard Lines with Contraband. They have since posted bond and been released.
John Harris was also charged with one count of Criminal Attempt to Cross Guard Lines with Contraband and remains in the Bulloch County Correctional Institute.
