To help make their money stretch a little further Georgia’s tax-free weekend got underway at 12:01 a.m. today, (Friday, August 9th) and will end at midnight Saturday August 10th. For those two days no sales tax will be charged on clothes, shoes, computers and other school supplies. Clothing items can’t cost more than $100 each, $20 each for school supplies and $1,000 on computers and accessories.
The annual sales tax holiday was begun more than a decade ago. Saying the state could not afford it, the holiday was suspended from 2009 to 2011. It was resumed in 2012.
Georgia is one of 17 states that will have tax-free holidays, mostly for school supplies, this year.
