Two blood drives to kick off July

Written by  Monday, 01 July 2013 10:48

The Bulloch County chapter of the American Red Cross will start collections for July with a drive today at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro in the office building adjacent to the hospital.  The drive will be in the Mims Monroe Blood Center, Suite 307 on the third floor.  Hours are from 13:30 till 5:30 p.m.

A second drive this week is set for July 4th at Mill Creek Regional Park as part of the Firecracker Festival.  The bloodmobile will be accepting donations of blood between 4 and 8 p.m. Thursday

Eligible donors are urged to make a effort to attend either one of these drives and donate a unit of blood  There is a chronic shortage of blood in the region and the supply usually suffers even more during the summer when many potential donors are out of town on vacation and other activities.

Although walk-ins are the mainstay of blood donations and are always welcomed, for those who have time constraints you can make an appointment to assure you will be in and out quickly.  To make an appointment for any upcoming blood drive, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information.  All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.
